Joy A MONROE

January 26, 1934 — July 5, 2012

MONROE, Joy A. (Sauerbrun) - passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 after a short illness. Joy was born on January 26, 1934 of parents Richard Adam Sauerbrun and Thelma A. Deehr in Warren, OH. Joy graduated from Birmingham High School. She earned her bachelors and masters degrees from Michigan State University. There she was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the Orchesis Modern Dance Society. Joy taught Art, Biology, Independent Study, English, and Social Studied at the Junior High level for 21 years. She was an avid gardener, watercolorist, reader and volunteer at Adopt A Pet in Fenton. Joy was a founding member of the Grand River Trail chapter of the DAR, tracing four of her ancestors as patriots of the Revolutionary War. In later years with the help of the Internet, she traced her German ancestry back to 1750 and her English ancestors back to 1438. Joy is survived by Carl Collister Monroe, her husband of 42 years; children, Dave Perry, Lura Perry, Karen Monroe, Mark Monroe, Sheryl Monroe, grandchildren, Makayla Monroe, Robert Perry, Chris Monroe, Daniel Perry and Courtney, Reily; brother, Richard (Donna) Sauerbrun. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Darill Perry. A memorial service will be held 12 PM Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton.
