Joseph Wardie

WARDIE, Joseph Lee- Age 78, of Fenton, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Joe was born March 11, 1943, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Joseph and Grace (Lobb) Wardie. He married Mary Salmon in Fenton on March 17, 1963. Joe graduated from Fenton High School in 1961. He proudly served his country from 1962-1966 in the US Air Force as a jet aircraft mechanic. Joe then studied at Mott Community College to become a journeyman die maker/machinist. He retired from General Motors with 38 years of service, working at Chevy in the Hole and later Grand Blanc Metal Fabrication. Joe loved cars and racing. He built from the ground up two blue 1961 Corvettes. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are: loving wife of 58 years, Mary Wardie of Fenton; daughter, Amy (Matthew) Rechsteiner of Grand Blanc; son, Joseph (Dorothy) Wardie of Fenton; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, Joseph, Joshua, Jack, Nathan, Reagan (Brittany), Quinn (Drew), Shane, Miles and Kalicia. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Weaver of Alpena; brother, Ron (Janeen) Wardie of Kalkaska; sister-in-law, Kathy (Ray) Lertola of The Woodlands, TX; many nephews and nieces. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Grace Wardie; stillborn brother, Rickie Wardie; brother-in-law, Harold (Skip) Weaver. Funeral services will be held 11:30AM Tuesday, June 8, at First Baptist Church of Fenton, 860 N Leroy St, Fenton: Pastor James Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 4PM-8PM Monday, June 7, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, and at the church 10AM until time of service on Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to First Baptist Church of Fenton or Heart to Heart Hospice. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
