Joseph Harold Dew

DEW, Joseph Harold  Age 83, of Flint, MI, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2003. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 12, 2003 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Grant Wessell officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery with veterans honors being performed under the auspices of Fenton VFW Curtis-Wolverton Post # 3243. Visitation will be held 1 PM until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. He was born January 1, 1920 to Joseph Locke Dew and Edna Mae Berg in Tracey, Iowa, the 6th of 7 children. He served in the 741st Tank Battalion in WW II earning the Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart for extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy. Lt. Dew was the first to break through the Siegfried Line in Germany. He rose to the rank of Captain. On April 21, 1946, he married Evelyn Johnson. They moved to Flint, MI after he graduated from Iowa State University. They were blessed with two children. He worked for General Motors and retired in 1975 as Superintendent of Production in the pressed-metal unit of Chevrolet. He loved his family, camping, inventing, and reading about health. His wife preceded him in death in 1990. He is survived by: son, Dennis Dew and wife, Sandy; grandsons, Joshua and Nathan Dew; daughter, Elaine Briggs and husband, Larry; grandson, Jeff Briggs and wife, Sheila; great-grandsons, Tadd, Keith, and Kyle; grandson, Brian Briggs and wife, Hedieh; great-grandchildren, Emily and Michael Briggs; dear friends.
