DAILY, Joseph Gerard - age 26, of Flushing, died at Hurley Medical Center and went to his home in Heaven on Sunday, June 29, 2008. Joe fought a courageous battle with cancer for 18 years. A celebration of Joe's life will be held 11 AM Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Mayfair Bible Church, 5339 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing with Pastor Dean Stewart and Pastor Doug Klein co-officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11-4 and 6-8 Tuesday and Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will also be held 10 am until the time of service Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family to establish a Joe Daily Scholarship Fund at Flushing High School and Grand Blanc High School. Joe graduated with high honors from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2004 with a teaching degree in secondary education. He taught summer school at Flushing High School and was currently an English Literature teacher at Grand Blanc High School. Joe had a love for literature, film, history, music, humor and writing. He used all of these interests in his creative teaching. He was also a musician performing in area coffee houses with his friends, Cory Glover and Ryan Brandt. Joe also loved to read and write poetry and self published two poetry books. Surviving are: parents, Bruce and Nancy Daily of Flushing; sister, Annie Bueche and husband, Tim of Swartz Creek; grandfather, Gerard Johnson; uncle, James Daily; cousins, Stacy, Jason and Justin Daily; niece and nephew, Joshua and Madison Jo Bueche; great-aunt and uncle, Delores and Harold Hoover; great-aunt, Myriel Akershoek. He is also survived by his best friends, Cory Glover and Andy Fotenakes and countless friends and supporters during his courageous fight with cancer. He was preceded in death by: his maternal grandmother, Nellie Johnson; paternal grand-parents, Joseph and Barbara Daily; cousin, Jimmy Joe Daily. The family would like to thank Joe's oncologists, Dr. Susumu Inoue and Dr. Yanik and his nurse, Mary Mitchell Beren for their care for Joe.
