John S. Kendrick, 88, formerly of Swartz Creek died July 21, 2016 in Bakersfield, CA. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 30 at W. Court St. Church of God, 2920 W. Court St., Flint. Rev. Ron Nuckles will officiate. Internment will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek; and from 9-10 AM Saturday at the church. Donations to the church in lieu of flowers requested by the family. John S. Kendrick was born Sept. 30, 1927 in Alabama, son of Zema and Cordia Kendrick. He married Virginia Moore in Sept. of 1948 in Arkansas. He served in US Navy during WWII, spent two years with occupational forces in China and later served with US Marines. He graduated from Flint Northern Adult High School and Mott Community College. John was hired on at Chevrolet in 1952 and retired with 38 years as a skilled trades machinist. He flew his own airplane as well as volunteered with USAF Civil Air Patrol flight operations. He took up golfing when he retired. John and wife Virginia were long time members of W. Court St. Church of God. Survived by sons, Gary Kendrick of Flint and Dave Kendrick of Bakersfield, CA along with daughter-in-law Lora Kendrick; grandson, Joshua Kendrick and granddaughter, Angela Kendrick all of Bakersfield, CA. He is also survived by brothers, Will (VA), Jim (OK), Al (MO) and Mac (MO) Kendrick and sister, Sandi Franklin (MD). He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Virginia; parents, Zema and Cordia as well as sisters, Essie McMahon (IL), Margaret Moore (MI), and Fay South (MO).
