John Timothy Schied

SCHIED, John Timothy - Age 62, of Fenton, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2025 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 6481 Faussett Road, Howell. Fr, Gregg A. Pleiness celebrant. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with Rosary Service at 7:30 PM, Friday February 7, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, and 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions in John’s memory would be appreciated to Adopt-A-Pet, Fenton.

John was born January 14, 1963 in Jackson, the son of Edward and Joanne Schied. John graduated from St. Francis High School in Traverse City and went on to Albion College where he received his undergraduate degree. He later graduated from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University with his Masters of Business Administration. He married Deborah Lynn Scott in Fenton on March 11, 1995. John was employed at General Motors Service Parts Operations for 26 years. He later retired from Volkswagen Group of America (after 14 years) as Senior Director of Warehouse Operations.

John loved and collected classic cars, and was especially proud of his 1972 Chevy pick up truck, which he participated in the “Great Race” traveling from Jacksonville, FL to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and then ending in Traverse City, MI with his brother Phil as his navigator. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and boating, and was an avid hockey player. 

John was known for his quick wit and keen sense of humor. He was very kind and loved animals, especially dogs. John is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Deborah; brother Phillip Schied; sister Suzanne (Dennis) Benjamin; brother-in-law David (Nancy) Scott; sister-in-law Tracey Stewart; mother-in-law Bernice Scott; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs.
