John Runyan

John Edward Runyan - Age 91, of Grand Blanc, beloved husband and father, died Sunday, March 8, 2020. Funeral Mass will be held 11AM Saturday, March 14 at St. Matthew Catholic Church 706 Beach St. Flint. Father Tom Firestone celebrant. Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Friday with a rosary being prayed at 7 PM at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint; and also from 10AM Saturday until the time of Mass at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Alzheimer's Association. John was born May 15, 1928 in Flint, the son of Russell and Grace (Burrett) Runyan. He married Catherine Becker on October 6, 1951 in Flint. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2017. John proudly served his Country in the United States Army Airborne from 1946-1948. He was a GMI graduate. John retired as director at General Motors Service Parts Operations in 1987 with 39 years of service across numerous locations. He was a private pilot. John also enjoyed boating and taught Celestial Navigation for United States Power Squadrons. He also served as a member on the Michigan Lung Association and the American Red Cross boards. John is survived by his daughter, Marsha (Frank) Gavin of Vero Beach, FL; son, John Runyan Jr. of Grand Blanc; granddaughter, Catherine (Jonathan) Volk of Vero Beach, FL; numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jane Rowe.
