John Nicolson

NICOLSON, John Charles - Age 69 of Swartz Creek, died October 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Tuesday, October 25 at Sharp Funeral Homes Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Raymond Jemerson will officiate. Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will take place 2-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the charity of one's choice. John was born September 3, 1947 in Highland Park, the son of Angus and Rosalie (Allen) Nicolson. He married Margaret Anne Sopko in Flint on October 5, 1974. He graduated from Fenton High School Class of 1965. John was inducted into the U.S. Army in October 1966. He served in Vietnam as a radio operator for Bravo Battery 6th Battalion. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the war. John retired in 2007 after serving 40 years in the retail industry, having worked for A&P, Farmer Jack and Hollywood Market. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 42 years, Margaret; children, Amy Nicolson, William (Amber) Nicolson, and Laura Collins; grandchildren, Madeline, Maxwell, and Mason Collins, and Leah Nicolson; siblings, Christine (David) Koester, Gail (Wayne) Chene, William Nicolson; brother-in-law, Joseph Sopko; sister-in-law, Susan Ethington; many nieces and nephews.
