John Newell, Sr.

NEWELL Sr., John W., age 69, of Mio, formerly of Linden, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Services will be 2:30PM Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Chaplain Ray Smith officiating. Military Honors will be performed under the auspices of Fenton V.F.W. Curtis-Wolverton Post #3243. John was born August 18, 1937 in Lake City, Arkansas the son of Cecil and Ethel E. (Kennan) Newell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1955 to 1958. John married Sharon Filsinger in Detroit on April 8, 1967 and she preceded him in death on December 5, 1998. He had been employed as a semi-driver for Yellow Freight for many years. John loved the outdoors, including fishing and hunting. An important part of John's life was helping people, he was a member of the Mio Dummy Club, which supported others in the community in many ways. He was a good father to his children and will be missed by them very much. Surviving are his daughter, Sheryl Arnold of Midland; son, John W.
