McDERMOTT, John David - of the Flint area, age 66, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Genesys Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Visitation 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. John was born November 13, 1944. He is remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was known to family and friends as always smiling, always loving. On September 22, 1984, he married Maria Francine-Grose Johnson with whom he lovingly shared almost 27 years of marriage. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army. He loved his family, pets, working in the yard, fishing and golfing. Surviving are wife, Maria; children Jennifer (McDermott) and husband David Brooks, John and wife Cristina McDermott, Stacy (Johnson) and husband Jeff Schwerin, and Aaron Johnson and wife Jessica; and grandchildren Tyler, Landon and Conner Schwerin; Jules, Jordan and Andrew Johnson; and Charlie, Colin and Spencer Brooks. Also surviving are parents Mary and Walter Ostrander (His step-father, Walter Ostrander, was the person he knew and loved as "Dad") and sister Rebecca (Ostrander) and husband David Pettengill. He will also be missed by his four-footed children; Peter, Cujo, Parker, Aesop, Booth and Yamee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
