John "Jack" P. Callahan, age 95, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Graveside Service with Navy Military Honors will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road in Holly, Michigan. Jack was born on August 21, 1928, in Coalport, PA the youngest of 9 children to the late Simon & Jean Callahan. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer from 1946 to 1951. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal during his service. After his service he married the love of his life, Ruth Henry, in 1960 in Royal Oak, Michigan. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2017. Jack was employed at GM Truck and Bus in Pontiac; he retired in 1989 after 30 years of employment.
In his younger years he played football as a halfback with his twin brother, Joe. In those early years he was also a roller dancer! He enjoyed playing golf during his retirement in Florida. Jack will be forever remembered as a real "character", he always had either a story or joke to share.
Jack is survived by his son, John (Christy) Callahan; grandchildren, Justin Moore, Courtney (Trevor) Kubitskey, Lesley Callahan and two great-grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Monica Moore; and his 8 siblings.
