HAWKINS, John Edward, age 90, of Fenton, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Visitation will be held 10:30AM until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to START Program of AuGres for homeless animals. John was born April 9, 1916 in Walla Walla, Washington, the son of William H. and Pearl Marie (Battersley) Hawkins. He married Mary Elaine Barnes in Flint on September 7, 1946. John served in the U.S. Army as Staff Sgt., serving time at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Medal. He was an accountant for Allied Signal for 15 years and Union Oil of California for 15 years. Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Elaine; sister-in-law, Pat Richardson of Flint; nephews, Bob Richardson (Fran) of Linden, Keith Richardson (Marty) of Flint, Mike McGraw of Fenton; niece, Linda Buell (Dick) of Gladwin; special friend, Jo-Lee Wambach of Fenton; and many loving great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother and 2 sisters. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Genesys ICU and hospital Chaplain Sister Mary Norman.
