John W. ELLIS

ELLIS, John William - age 88, of Swartz Creek, died Friday, October 23, 2009. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, October 26, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Darrell Ellis officiating. Internment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-9 PM Sunday and 12 PM until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Avalon Hospice. Mr. Ellis was born May 13, 1921 in Church Hill, TN, the son of Robert Taylor and Elsie (Calhoun) Ellis. He married Bertha May Arnold on April 8, 1939 in Gate City, VA and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2005. Mr. Ellis retired from General Motors Metal Fab as an electrician in 1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Swartz Creek, the Masons and the Shriners where he drove Tin Lizzies for many years. Mr. Ellis enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he loved and enjoyed his grandchildren. Surviving are: eight children, Clay "Bill" (Carol) Ellis, Raymond (Juanita) Ellis, Paul Leonard (Nancy) Ellis, Glenna (Nelson) Porter; special friend, Betty Lou Gibson and mother of, Nancy (Junior) Cowan, Roxy Ferguson, Robert (Barb) Ellis, Rita (Jack) Ferguson; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by: daughter, Lourie Ann Ellis; granddaughter, Teresa; great-granddaughter, Kylie.
