John David Doherty - Age 46, of Goodrich, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2017. Funeral services will be held 6:00PM Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint. Deacon Bill Sirl officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials for John may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter, 564 South Main Street, Suite 200, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. John was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 8, 1970 to Dr. David J. and Mary C. Doherty (Quigley). John grew up in Flint and was a graduate of Powers High School. John received his undergraduate and master's degrees from GMI Engineering & Management Institute and was an engineer with GM for most of his career. John was married to Melissa Swango for 12 years and together they raised their son David Paul while residing in the Goodrich, Michigan community. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating, and cars. John was a proud person who was very generous in many ways. He was a friend to many and was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. John is survived by his son David and his 4 siblings, Mike (Cyndi), Kathleen, Jim (Julie) and Joe (Kelli). John was blessed with 10 nieces and nephews, whom he adored: Sean, Kristi, Aiden, Niall, Faye, Elle, Fianna, Mike, and Gwyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Doherty.
