DELAY, John Lindell, age 89, of Flint, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. Funeral Services will be  1PM Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. Rev. Marshall E. Delay officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly where John's four sons and two grandsons, Donald A. Delay and Leonard T. Delay will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be 6-8PM Monday and 1-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held 7PM Tuesday under the auspices of Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge #458. Contributions may be made to Genesys Hospice Care Center. John was born July 20, 1918 in Advance, Missouri the son of Andrew Jackson and Alma Elizabeth (Owens) Delay. He married Elizabeth Miller Holder on September 14, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII and had been employed by Garrison's Hardware at time of his retirement. He had worked as an electrician and master mechanic in the construction industry. John was a member of D.A.V, a 3rd Degree Mason, Swartz Creek Lodge and 32nd Degree, Bay City Consistory, Elf Khurafeh Shriner, I.B.E.W. # 948 and Teamster Local 332. He was the oldest child of 14, a patriarch for all the younger ones, and always willing to give them a helping hand.  Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth "Betty"; 4 sons, John L. Delay Jr. (Joyce) of Port Huron, Robert F. Delay (Millie) of Swartz Creek, Mark D. Delay (Barbara) of Flint, Christopher A. Delay of Ovid; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Betty Lane Apsey (Charles) of Swartz Creek, Blanche Sowell (Loren) of Swartz Creek, Reka Hall (Ralph) of Owosso, Rosemary Whitener (Frank) of Missouri; 3 brothers, Rev. Marshall E. Delay (Barbara) of Flint, Forrest D. Delay (Carol) of Chino Valley, AZ, Harold W. Delay (Carol) of Hillsboro, MO.
