John Canning

February 28, 1935 — March 11, 2015

CANNING, John "Jack" Phillip - Age 80, of Flushing, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, March 16, 2015 at his home parish of 50 years, St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St, Flushing. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Entombment in the Mausoleum at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Sunday from 12-4 and 5-8 PM where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. Visitation will also be at the church Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Those desiring may make contributions to: Masses, Flushing Christian Outreach Center, or Luke M. Powers Catholic School. Jack was born February 28, 1935 in Flint the son of Stephen and Mary Agnes (Foy) Canning. He married Joanne Pileri May 2, 1959 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Flint. He retired in 1987 from General Motors as a Plant Superintendent. Jack was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Flushing. He has resided in Flushing for the past 50 years coming from Flint. He enjoyed traveling to visit kids and grandkids, his second home in Oscoda, his winters in Florida, reading, golfing and Euchre. Surviving are: his wife of 55 years, Joanne; 5 children, Patty Canning of St. Clair Shores, John Canning of Streetsboro, OH, Marty and wife Jenna Canning of Lexington, KY, Elena Canning Ford and fiance Ed Downing of Libertyville, IL, and Kathleen and husband Rodney Killingbeck of College Station, TX; 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Pat and wife Colette Canning and Tom Canning; sisters, Catherine McGuire, Rita Doherty, Irene and husband Clare Abbott, Karen and husband Dave Aldorfer, and Colleen and husband Dennis Paradowski; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
