John Thomas Affrica

AFFRICA, John Thomas - age 80 of Linden, died July 1, 2024. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, July 8, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, MI 48430 with Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430 and from 10 AM - 11 AM Monday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to St John the Evangelist Catholic Church. John was born June 16, 1944, in Brackenridge, PA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. John married Eileen Marie Milberger on May 18, 1968, and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2023. John worked for KSI in Kitchen Design/Sales for over 35 years and was known as "The Cabinet Man". He and his wife were active parishioners at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and were involved in Marriage Encounter and Cursillo. John served as the Athletic Director at St. John School while his sons attended there. John was an enthusiast on the water both on Lake Fenton in the summers and in Florida in the winters. 

Many will remember John on his Jet Ski out on Lake Fenton enjoying all the summer sunshine. He brought a bit of cheer to the Fenton area during Christmas when he played the role of Santa at various events. John found joy in providing what he could to others including sharing his cooking and baked goods. He was a proud grandfather who enjoyed hearing about and sharing in his grandchildren's academic and athletic accomplishments, as well as, always attending their sports and school events. Surviving are: two sons, Rick Affrica and wife, Lara and Sean Affrica and wife, Patty. He was a loving grandfather (Papa) to Benjamin and Ellyssa Affrica and Ashley and Alexandra Affrica; sister, Kathleen (Don) Herring. 

Remember John with a smile on his face saying "I'll save ya a seat".
