POWELL, Joan Mary - Of Grand Blanc, age 54, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11824 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, Fr. Kenneth Coughlin, celebrant. Visitation will be held at the Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. from 6-9PM Tuesday and 3-5 and 6-9PM Wednesday with a Parish Rosary being prayed at 8PM Wednesday. The family will greet friends at the church on Thursday from 10AM until the time of Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research or Holy Family Catholic Church. Joan was born March 4, 1955 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Edward C. and Stella T. (Soltys) Tovey and had lived in the Flint and Grand Blanc areas all of her life. She married Jeffrey D. Powell on March 27, 1981 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mrs. Powell graduated in 1973 from Powers Catholic High School and then from Michigan State University. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Warwick Hills Country Club. Surviving are: husband, Jeff; children, Katie A. Powell of Scottsdale, AZ, Elizabeth Louise Powell of Grand Blanc, Daniel Jeffrey Powell of Grand Blanc; brother and sister, David and Mary Tovey of Grand Blanc, Diane Jacobson of Flint; father and mother-in-law, Dan and Dorey Powell of Grand Blanc; aunts, Lottie Weir of Burton, Marge Soltys of Flushing; brother-in-law, Richard "Chip" Powell of Grand Blanc; sister-in-law, Nancy and John Denne of Grand Blanc; She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edward Tovey.
