Joan Norman

Joan E. Norman, age 87, of Clio, formerly of Flint, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, starting at 4PM until 7:30PM at Sharp Funeral Home, 8138 Miller Road in Swartz Creek. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 1PM at Sharp Funeral Home in Swartz Creek. Inurnment will be held at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. She was born on September 23, 1935, in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Edgar & Hazel Ullery. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in Flint, Michigan and was named salutatorian from the class of 1953. She continued her education at Mott Community College. Joan married Richard on June 20, 1958 and together they were blessed with four children.

Joan was a talented artist who sacrificed a scholarship at a prestigious art school in Chicago in order to become a devoted wife and mother. She will forever be remembered as the matriarch of her family. To Joan there was nothing more important than caring for her loved ones. In her younger years she did much traveling with her family and always took the grandchildren on outings to the movies. She always had dollar store candy and a sweet tooth to go along with it. She was always reading the newspaper and was known for being well-informed on many topics. She was a wonderful cook and always hosted family parties for the holidays.

She is survived by her son; Dr. James Norman; her two daughters, Janet Macko and Mary Jane (Greg) Boike; grandchildren, Chelsea (Anthony) Fulks, Joseph Macko, Laura (Ryan) Lohndorf, Eric (Tara) Boike, Kathryn Macko and Jason (Kristen) Boike; 5 great-grandchildren and brother, Edward (Sharon) Ullery. Joan is further survived by many other family members and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar & Hazel Ullery; her husband, Richard Norman; son, Michael Norman; her son-in-law, Gregory Macko; and sister and brother-in-laws Hester & Bill Taeckens and Betty & Bill Riopelle.
