FARHAT, Joan Mary - age 82, of Fenton, died May 29, 2022 following a decade-long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Joan was born November 21, 1939 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Henry and Joan (Szczepanek) Karol. She married George Farhat on November 25, 1961 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Joan worked in food service at Fairview Elementary and retired from Kenowa Hills Public Schools. She was the beloved “lunch lady” at Fairview. Joan’s passions were crocheting, playing bingo, cooking and entertaining. Joan and her husband, George, hosted memorable family dinners throughout their marriage of 60 years.
Joan was a devoted Catholic and lived a life of service, generosity and hospitality to her family and community. Surviving are: husband, George Farhat of Fenton; son, Michael Farhat (Karen Connell) of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter, Kathy Farhat-Tomaszewski (Steven Tomaszewski) of Fenton; grandchildren, Mikayla, Ashley (fiancé, Colin Zaporski) Madison, and Caden Farhat-Tomaszewski; Nicholas Farhat, Katelyn (James) Adamus; Jennifer (Justin) Hales; sister, Barbara Marshall. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren. Joan was preceded in death by: her parents; son, James Farhat; and brother, Joseph Karol. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to Joan’s loving, kind and exceptional caregiver, Judy Bouton.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430 where a scripture service will be held at 7 PM Wednesday night. Visitation will also be held 10 AM - 11 AM Thursday, at the church. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, June 2, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, MI 48430 with Fr. David Harvey celebrant.
