Jessie Fortune

March 18, 1933 — May 29, 2020

Fortune, Jessie Marie - Age 87, of Grand Blanc, passed away Friday May 29, 2020 at her residence in Grand Blanc, Michigan. A private viewing will be held Thursday, June 4 from 1-2PM at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Grand Blanc. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Alzheimer's Association. Jessie was born March 18, 1933 in Pocahontas, AR.,. Jessie was one of seven children born to Rufe and Alma (Nimmo) McManners. She was preceded in death by sons, Gary and Terry Johnson of Davison, MI. and husbands Glendon Johnson, Robert Fortune, and Joel Williams. Also preceded in death were four brothers, Gerald, Bob, Hershel, and Johnny McManners and her sister Bertha (McManners) Lowrey from AR. Jessie's parents and siblings worked in the Arkansas cotton fields with each child starting at a very young age. When she was a young lady, she married Glendon H. Johnson, also of Pocoahontas. They gladly left the hard work of the cotton fields behind and moved to Michigan. Glendon began his 32 year career with General Motors and he and Jessie started their family in Burton. Jessie was also a career woman working at the Foodlane grocery store in Grand Blanc in the early 1970's and later managed the Abbott's Meat store on Bristol Rd. in Burton. She loved to travel and spend time with her many grandchildren. After retirement and moving back to Arkansas she served as office manager for the Arkansas U.A.W. Retirees. She loved this position as she was able to assist many retired union workers alongside her second husband, Robert Fortune. She enjoyed dabbling in the stock market and was always aware of things going on in the world including the political arena. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh! She also had strong opinions about almost everything and was never shy about sharing them with anyone. Just ask her family! Jessie is survived by her children, Debbie Johnson Canada of Burton, Ronald Johnson of Grand Blanc, Timothy Johnson of Brookland, AR.; her beloved twin sister, Bessie and her husband, Raymond Sorg of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Tracy (Richard) Derry, Andrew Woods, Kevin Johnson, Jefferey (Christinia) Johnson, Christopher (Jill) Johnson, Tony (Charlene) Johnson, Gregory Johnson, Susan (Adam) Fisher, Brandan (Monica) Salyers, Meagan May, Cortni, Corey and Austin Johnson; great-grandchildren, Lain Johnson, Johnathon, Kennedy, and Kiersten Derry, Gannon, Dominic, and Allison Woods, Lucas Johnson, Evan and Erynn Johnson, Maxwell and Lillian Johnson, Layton Johnson, Eli Salyers, Liam Johnson, Piper May, Corbin and Lucas Fisher; many beloved nieces and nephews in Arkansas, Missouri and other parts of the country. Daughters-in-law, Deborah (MacDonell) Johnson, Cynthia (McGaughey) Johnson and Carol Johnson; son-in-law, Robert Woods. Our family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful caregivers at The Oaks Of Woodfield in Grand Blanc. They were amazing with the love and care they showed our mother in the two years that she was a resident. Also, to the nurses and aides from Kindred Hospice, thank you so much for all that you did. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
