KALFS, Janice Marie - age 86, of East Tawas and Fenton, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Posey's Senior Care Homes in Fenton. Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, October 30 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Inurnment will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-8 PM Tuesday October 29 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, including a Rosary Service at 7 PM Tuesday, October 29 at the funeral home. Visitation will also be 10 AM until the time of Mass at the church on Wednesday, October 30.
Born on September 22, 1938 in Flint, Michigan, to Norma Sabourin and George Hawk, Janice moved to East Tawas in 2002 from Fenton Michigan. Janice was a homemaker amongst many other things, including working for Michigan Bell, the VG’s deli, Holy Cross shop and a volunteer eucharistic minister at Ascension St. Joe’s Hospital in East Tawas. Janice's passions included quilting, dancing (the Jitterbug), gardening, baking, sailing, singing, and spending time with her family. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister that will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her brother and three sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Peppin, Dennis (Jill) Hawk , Linda (Robert) Myrant and Lorraine Bollinger; Five children, Timothy D. Kalfs, Thomas G. (Ellen) Kalfs, Ann Marie (Jim) Schneider, Patricia Mary (Tony) Alexander, and Robert S. (Tina) Kalfs; 13 grandchildren, Brent, Dayna, Ken (Drea), Christopher, Lauren, Carly (Stephen), Bailey, Samantha, Bree, Braxton, Jack, Olivia and MacKenzie; and three great-grandchildren, Brody Thomas, Aspen Rose, Abby Lee. She was proceeded in death by: her parents, Norma (Sabourin) Coggins and George Hawk; her husband of 60 years, Thomas W. Kalfs; and her son, Douglas Michael Kalfs. A special thank you to the Medical Team (Hospice), Posey Senior Care Homes, and Lockwood of Fenton.
Donations in Janice's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Luke's New Life Center, or the American Heart Association.
