MITCHELL Janet Elizabeth -- Age 72, of Haslett Mi, passed away Friday, November 10th after a lengthy battle with MS. Per her wish cremation has taken place.
She was born September, 19, 1951 in Wyandotte MI and raised in Flint. Janet was a graduate of Flint Northern High School and Michigan State University (Psychology). She started work at Michigan National Bank in Lansing and moved to various other institutions as a mortgage banker. She was active in Zonta and spent time working at the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing. Janet was active in her church as a leader of the alter guild and member of the finance committee. She loved the outdoors. She was an avid cyclist and participated in DALMAC events and several bike trips through Europe. She was fond of gardening, downhill and cross-country skiing, and golfing with the “girls”.
Janet is survived by brothers James (Beverly) and John Mitchell, nephew Michael (Heather)Mitchell, cousins, Joyce (David) Petrokovitz and their daughter Sonya, Harold W. Oppice, and close friends, Theresa Hubbell and family, Sharon (Dan) Wright and family, Kevin Feldpausch, Rose (Carl) Carlson and family, Peg Valenti, and many other friends and business associates.
She was preceded in death by her parents Franklin and Lillian Mitchell and sister in-law Cynthia Loomis Mitchell.
The family would like to offer Special Thanks to Marcie, Chad and the rest of the wonderful staff and residents of Brookdale of Meridian A/L and M/C, who became her second family, and to Dr. Laberge, Kristine, and Kristin of Hospice of Lansing for their care of Janet.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 12th at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, 4650 Meridian Road, Williamston MI 48895, with visitation one hour prior, and a luncheon following in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Katherine’s, or the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, 1712 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912, or the National MS Society.
