James Young

July 2, 1939 — September 16, 2015

Young, James Thompson, known as Jim by most, passed on September 16, 2015. He was a beloved father and grandfather and devoted friend. He is survived by daughter Bethany Young and grandchildren Harrison, Juliana and Ainsleigh, daughter Laura Young and her wife Kate and his sister Ruth Urbanic and her husband John. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Ruth Young of Fenton. Jim graduated from Linden High School where he excelled at track and field and made many life-long cherished friends. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Biology. He taught for a year and then after a summer job with General Motors, hired on in the Ceramics Engineering Research Department at AC Spark Plug (Delco/Delphi). He retired after 33 years and earned several European patents for his work. A man of many interests and talents, Jim played tennis and badminton, water and snow skied, enjoyed science fiction and poetry, and cared for a host of pets, birds and bees at his home on the lake. He has also traveled across the United States and visited Peru, Costa Rica and Tanzania. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Donations can be made in his honor to the ASPCA or the Nature Conservancy. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
