WEISBERG, James Michael - age 80, died peacefully at his home in Grand Blanc, MI on Sunday, June 3rd, surrounded by family. Jimmy leaves two children, Melissa Weisberg, and Michael Weisberg, two daughters-in-law, Lisa Lewis and Nova Jennings, grandchildren Lewis Campbell, Gavin Miles and Preston Weisberg, his favorite cousin Fern (Bert) Edelstein, two brothers-in-law, Larry Feinstein and Eddie Shapiro, many nieces and nephews, and many, many, many devoted friends. Jimmy was born on February 17, 1938 to Gladys (Krause) and Morrey Weisberg, and graduated from Detroit Mumford High School. After his 2 years in the United States Navy, he moved to Flint, and met (Barbara) Bobbi Shapiro. They were married on March 26th, 1961. They were married for almost 44 years when Bobbi died in 2004, at the age of 63. He never remarried. He claimed that it took Bobbi all of 43 years to train him, and he wasn't sure he could be or wanted to be retrained. Jimmy, along with Kevin Dillon (d. 2015) and Tom Ogle (d. 2002) began D.O.W. Asphalt Paving in 1981 and were immediately successful. He sold the business to employees after Bobbi died, and retired. During those long hot summers, you could either find Jimmy working until dark, or on the golf course, where he was an excellent golfer. It was his lifelong love. He gained the name ‘Uncle Who' because of skipping many a family get-together because he was golfing instead. Jimmy collected friends. Once he befriended someone, he worked hard to keep them in his life. The friends that he collected during his annual month stay in Aruba called him The Mayor, because he knew everyone. His neighbors in Grand Blanc also called him The Mayor, and claim that none of them knew each other until he moved in. Jimmy also was that rare thing, a Jewish optimist. He never had a bad day, or certainly never let you know it if he did. His glass was always half full (unless it was vodka, and then you'd better top it off, and don't forget the 6 olives because he doesn't like to drink on an empty stomach), and his clouds always had silver linings. Even going through his last terrible illness, he never, ever let it get the best of him. When calling and asking how he was, a friend might hear ‘Great! Played 18 today, and shot 3 under par!', or ‘The dancing girls just left, so I'm a bit tired'. He never complained, and kept his (twisted) sense of humor until the end. Jimmy was predeceased by his wife Bobbi, mother Gladys, father Morrey, sister Sharon Scarpone, and son Lawrence Jay. Services will be on Wednesday, June 6th at 10:30am, at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint, MI 48507. Interment immediately after at Machpelah Cemetery in Flint. Shiva will be held Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm, with services at 7pm, at his home in Grand Blanc, 12885 Via Catherina, 48439.
