WALDING, James Terry, of Linden, age 64, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Home, 209 Broad Street, Linden, Pastor Joey Graves of New Testament Community Church officiating. Graveside services will be 11 AM Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Mr. Walding will lie in state at the Sharp Funeral Home where friends may visit 3-9 PM Monday, 9 AM-9 PM Tuesday and 9 AM until the time of service Wednesday. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Genesee County Humane Society or the charity of your choice. Terry was born in Flint, May 29, 1947 the son of James and Patricia (Herbst) Walding. He attended Flint Northern High School and in 1967-68 served with C Battery, 5th Battalion, 22nd Artillery, United States Army, in Vietnam. He married Carol June Newton April 2, 1993. He was employed at Zelley Funeral Home and Ambulance Service from 1974-1994 and then at Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home and Plumb-Smith Funeral Home. Terry participated in ASA softball leagues in Flint, Grand Blanc, and Davison for 30 years. He umpired for 10 years at various slow-pitch centers throughout Genesee County. He enjoyed his wife Carol, Tiger baseball, Michigan football, bowling at the Nightingale and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3655. Surviving are: wife, Carol Newton Walding; sisters, Susan Walding of Troy and Cheryl Walding (Rod Hagle) of Beaverton; special nieces, Danielle Derengowski of Linden and Stacey (Thorvy) Hansen of Talmo, Georgia; nephews, Brian (Tori) Parsons and Rodney (Julie) Parsons; aunt, Jane Newquist of Oswego, Illinois; mother-in-law, Virginia Newton of Swartz Creek; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Douglas and Jane Parsons of Brutus, Michigan, and Tom and Kay Coppedge of Jefferson, Georgia; pet dog Rosie Oh; special friends, the Brownell family, Donnie Gilbert, the Jelinek family and Joseph B.
