It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of James R. Taormina who passed peacefully in his sleep to a better place where he is no longer in pain on September 14, 2024. He was seventy-eight years old and will be remembered for being a noble man who was a fighter of all his illnesses in life. Never a man to mince words; he was kind, hardworking, a practical joker and a man of great faith in God.
Born May 18, 1946, Jim was the eldest son of Julius and Rosalie Taormina. He grew up in St. Clair Shores and attended St. Joan of Arc school. He became a Journeyman electrician and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 58 for 55 years. Electrocuted at work he endured a life of many serious diagnoses which tried to limit what he could do. He loved working with tools and was always willing to help anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Maria of 32 years, daughter, Aliecia (Darren) Gorder and grandchildren, Hunter and Kayla, daughter, Barbara Taormina, and son, Larry (Tiffanie) Steffes.
A dog lover, his boxer, Beau Geste was at the foot of his bed when he passed.
In later years he was an avid artist and poet; a surprise to all of us. His memory would not be complete without mentioning the special people in his life; Scott Lucas, Ryan Swartz, Gerald Heacock and his sister, Loree Eliot.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to McLaren Hospice or the Michigan Humane Society.
