SZEGI, James Charles - age 73, of Linden, died September 4, 2006 at his residence. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, September 7, 2006 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton with Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 6-9 PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton where a scripture service will be held 7:30 PM Wednesday evening. Visitation will also be held 10 AM until time of service at the church on Thursday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Lung Association. Mr. Szegi was born December 25, 1932 in Detroit, the son of James F. and Gladys (Szabo) Szegi. He married D. Kay Mardis on March 4, 1978 in Highland. Mr. Szegi was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving in the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired from Pipefitters Local #636 in 2000 after 38 years of service. Mr. Szegi was a member of VFW #5146, a charter member of Linden American Legion #0119; Highland Fraternal Order of the Eagles and D.A.V. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are: wife, Kay of Linden; six children, Michael (Donna) Mitch of Linden, Thomas (Marie) Mitch of Westland, Barry (Jennifer) Mitch of Hartland, Nancy Jo (Dennis) Irish of Dexter, James R. (Kim) Szegi of Highland, Karl (Tricia) Szegi of FL; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy Baier of MO, Kathleen MacCarthy of Westland, Mary Jane (Charlie) Kyle of Troy; many nieces and nephews.
