SMITH,   James I., age 76 died at Avalon Hospice, Friday, December 30, 2005. He was born in Flint on September 27, 1929 the son of  Ira J. and Iva (Steen) Smith.  He has been a resident of Flint and Grand Blanc all his lifetime. He and Sarah A. Smith were married in Flint on March 26, 1955.  Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S.Navy.  In younger years, he worked in the Merchant Marines.  He retired after many years in sales and finance.  Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.  Surviving is his wife, Sarah A. Smith, sisters; Helen McKinstry, Gloria Dugas, Ivajean and husband Eugene Hadley; brother, Richard and wife Sharon Smith.  He was preceded in death by a son Scott Norman Smith, parents and a brother Dewayne Smith.  Sevices will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd. (Just South of Hill Rd.)  Pastor Jim Vogel will officiate and burial with military honors will follow at Flint Memorial Park.  Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday, January 2, 2006 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.  Memorial gifts in his name may be made to the SNS Scholarship Fund at Baker College C/O 1050 Bristol Rd., Flint, Mi 48507.  Online condolences or tributes may be posted at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
