Shields, James  Edward - Age 80, of  Higgins Lake/Roscommon, died September 23, 2023. Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday October 6 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, Fr. Robert Copeland celebrant. Visiting will be at the church from 10-11 AM on Friday October 6.  Arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. 

James was born May 1, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Donald Shields and Clara (Pieterzak) Shields . He retired from the U.S. Army as Chief Warrant Officer. He was a member of the American Legion in Roscommon. He was a member of St. Hubert's Church in Higgins Lake and was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus.  Surviving are: son Mark (Mary) Shields; daughter, Monica (David) Hewitt; grandchildren, Ryan Shields, Taylor Shields, Hayden Hewitt, Avery Hewitt, Hogan Hewitt, Carson Hewitt; former wife, Margaret Shields; sisters Donna Smith and Anne Shields. He was preceded in death by his parents.
