James Rowan

ROWAN, James "Jim" Franklin- Age 83, of Flint formerly of Saginaw, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Funeral services will be held 3PM Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Lawrence Gill officiating. Visitation will be held 11AM until time of service at the funeral home Sunday. Jim was born September 29, 1933 in Flint, the son of Leo and Frances (Cant) Rowan. He married Billie Jo Frost in August of 1971 and she preceded him in death in 1997. Jim graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State University, then went on to receive a Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. He enjoyed playing chess and was an avid Detroit Lions and Detroit Pistons fan. He retired from the Saginaw Public Libraries with many years of service. Surviving are: daughters, Martha (Dana) Gray of VA, Mary (Rick) Penrod of Swartz Creek; sons, Phillip Rowan of Saginaw, Michael (Melissa) of Burton; grandchildren, John and Bradley Gray, Jeff (Brianna) Penrod, Jason (Kayla) Penrod, Haley Rowan, Hunter Rowan, Kevin Rowan, Gabe Rowan, Kaiya Rowan, Summer Rowan, Tracy, Stephanie and John Beckert; two great grandsons, Brody and Cameron Penrod. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Rowan in 2014. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodhaven for their care and compassion.
