Payne, James L., age 67, of Howell, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, with cremation to follow. Â Visitation will be held Monday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name, to the charity of one's choice or to Fenton Adopt a Pet. Jim was born in New York, son of Laverne and Sylvia Mae (Strausser) Payne. Â After earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering he started working for Cadillac in 1963 and worked at the G.M. Proving Grounds in Milford from 1965 until his retirement. Â Jim took an early retirement to obtain his buliders license, then designed and built his 'Dream Home'. He was a Charter member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Michigan Group, and enjoyed restoring his antique chevy pickups. Survivors include; his beloved wife Brenda, children James Payne, Laura Thompson, Jodie (Roger)Jakey, grandchildren Tyler Payne, Devin Jakey, Morgan Jakey, step-children Megan Anderson, Lisa Anderson, Steve King, Brian King, brother Timothy (Cece) Payne of New York, and a niece, nephew and grand niece.
