James W. "Jim" Parsons - Age 80, of Fenton, passed away April 16, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 22, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan. Pastor Doug Van Doren officiating. The burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery at 584 East Broad Street, Linden, MI Visitation will be held Sunday, April 21 at the funeral home from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and 12:00 PM until the time of the service Monday. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Jim was born June 28, 1943 in Detroit, the son of Homer and Opal (Vires) Parsons. He graduated from Taylor Center High School in 1961, he then attended Michigan State University and received his degree in Psychology. He later continued his education at Sam Houston State University and earned his MA degree in Criminal Justice. On August 31, 1963, Jim married his college sweetheart, Doris Formolo. Jim worked for the Texas Department of Corrections Juvenile Division, then as a Federal Probation Officer in Lubbock, TX and in Grand Rapids, MI, before being promoted to Chief Federal Probation Officer for the East Texas District. He became an avid golfer in high school and his love of golf lasted the rest of his life. He had two hole in ones during those many years on a golf course. He even caddied for Arnold Palmer. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He loved traveling with Doris and his children, Brian and Jenny. He loved fishing, boating and officiated high school and junior college basketball and football games for many years. Above all, he loved being a husband and dad, and grandpa "Paca"..
Jim is survived by: his wife, Doris; son, Brian J. Parsons; daughter, Jenny (JD) McKalko; grandchildren, Nicholas, Drew, Kat, Ellie, Naomi, Talia, Trent, Emma, and BaileyJo; great grandchildren; Yishai, Sofia, Asher, and Abigail; brother, Bill (Nancy) Parsons; sister, Penny (Randy) Tahvonen.
