JONES, James Olney. - Age 89, of Palm City, FL formerly of Fenton, made the peaceful crossover to Heaven, Monday, June 10, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Jim had a wonderful, full, healthy life and was ready to be reunited with the love of his life, Shirley. He left knowing how much he was loved, and we all know how much he loved us. Although he will be greatly missed, we have been left with so many wonderful memories.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed below his obituary here on this page). Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Fenton. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 PM with a V.F.W. Memorial Service at 7 PM, and Tuesday from 10-11 AM prior to the service.
Jim was born December 29, 1934, in Flint, to Thornwell and Lillian (McKee) Jones. He attended Mandeville High School in Flint, and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He married Shirley A. Neeley June 26, 1959, in Angola, IN and she preceded him in death December 22, 2002. Jim retired in 1996 from Anchor Motor Freight as a truck driver after 30 years of service. He was a member of Fenton V.F.W. Curtis-Wolverton Post #3243, where he was a member of the Honor Guard, the Fenton Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries #2460, and Teamsters Local #614.
Survivors include son, Wayne J. Jones of Fenton; daughter, Dr. Candy G. Jones of Palm City, FL; “adopted” daughter Rhea Slinger of Palm City, FL; granddaughters, Amanda (Corey) Fairbanks of Grand Rapids and Kendal Rae Simpson-Jones of Fenton; great-grandchildren Maggie and David; “adopted” grandchildren Blair (Callie) Slinger and Bryan (Amanda) Slinger; “adopted” great-grandchildren Carson and Madelyn; sister-in-law Carleen (Gerald) Neeley, special caregiver Bailey Pinder, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers Thornwell, Jr., Ernie, and Sam Jones; sister, Katherine Osterman. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
