NEERING, James Girard, age 89, of Flushing, Michigan, passed away on November 11, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. A visitation will take place Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 3 PM to 7 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, located at 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Following this, a private funeral service and burial will be held. James was born on July 6, 1935, in Adrian, Michigan, to Vincent F. and Agnes Marie (Girard) Neering. He was a proud graduate of St. Mary High School in Mt. Morris and attended Flint Junior (Mott) College. James served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. On June 18, 1955, he married Patricia McGuire in Flint, and together they raised three children: Michael (Cheryl) Neering, Dennis (Jennifer) Neering, and Susan (Joe) McCarthy. James was especially proud of his grandchildren-Jamie (Shaun) King, Jacob Neering, Joe McCarthy III, Jack McCarthy, and Jimmy McCarthy-and his great-grandson, Jude King. James had a distinguished career as a law enforcement officer. He played a key role in establishing the Paramedic Division of the Genesee County Sheriff Department and retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant. He then served as Chief of Police at Bishop Airport for five years. He was a proud member of the Swartz Creek American Legion, Swartz Creek VFW/AmVets, St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Flushing Council. Known for his dedication and strength, James was also an avid hunter who cherished spending time "Up North." He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his children; grandchildren; great-grandson; siblings Nanette Braiser and Mary (Rick) Dryzga; brother John (Darlene) Neering; and many cherished nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Agnes Neering; two grandchildren, Janelle and Dustin Neering; and his sister, Barbara Wisniewski.
