James William 'Jim' HURD

HURD, James William "Jim" - Age 75, of Sandusky, OH, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Howell, MI, in the loving arms of his children. Funeral Services will be held 12:30 PM Friday, December 18, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, MI. Pastor Russell A. Park officiating. Burial immediately following in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM and Friday from 11:00 AM until time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to Admiral's Pointe Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, Activities Department, 1920 Cleveland Rd, Huron, OH 44839. Jim was born November 30, 1934 in Monroe, MI, the son of Everett and Luetrell (Bloss) Hurd. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He Married Joyce M. Barger Hall June 10, 1972 in Bellevue, OH, she preceded him in death June 10, 1995. Jim retired in 1990 from Norfolk and Southern Railway after 23 years of service. He was a member of Venice Road Baptist Church, Sandusky, OH, president of the Stroke Club, member of the Melody Makers Singing Group, President of the Resthaven Golden Agers and past president of the Resident Council at Admiral's Pointe; he also sang yearly at the Monroe County Fair. Surviving are: 3 daughters, Cheri and husband Larry Petit of Durand, MI, Julie and husband Richard Small of Bingham Farms, MI and Dawn and husband Michael Leiser of Sandusky, OH; son, Daniel and wife Trisha Hurd of Canton, MI; 3 stepsons, Dean, Steven and Danny Hall; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Richard P. Hurd of Toledo, OH; sister, Marian M. Compton of Columbus, OH; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James William "Jimmy" Hurd, Jr. The family wishes to extend special thanks to: His long time loving companion, Florence Seckman, caring staff at Admiral's Pointe and the nursing staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital CCU.
