James Henry "Jim" Blades

BLADES, James Henry "Jim" - Age 87. of Grand Blanc, passed away April 6, 2024, after a three-month illness. A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place at a later date. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to HSC Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 295, Engadine, MI 49827. Cremation arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton.

Jim was born August 28, 1936, in Bakersfield, CA, the son of Wade and Thelma (Chilton) Blades. Jim graduated from Atherton High School. He married Roberta E. Martin in Burton on October 19, 1957. He began his career at age 20 with GM and attended GMI for his Electrical Apprenticeship. Jim spent a majority of his years as a Skilled Trade Supervisor. He served 32 years with GM until his retirement in 1987. Jim was a long-time member of The Hiawatha Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and vacationing. Jim also enjoyed carving ducks and hunting morel mushrooms. Jim and Peggy, along with members of the Dibbleville Questers , spent many hours restoring damaged headstones at Historic Oakwood Cemetery "Old Prospect Hill' in Fenton. After raising their family and residing in Fenton for 39 years, Jim and Peggy sold their home and possessions, purchased a motor home and spent winters in Florida and Texas and summers in Northern Michigan.

Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta “Peggy” Blades of Grand Blanc; children, Matthew (Gail) Blades of Fenton, Lisa Ann (Kevin) Bible of Bancroft, and Michael (Ingelin) Blades of Dolores, CO; his grandchildren, Chad (Hannah) Blades of Linden, Chelsea Blades of Van Nuys, CA and Brooke (Matt) Minkel; and his great grandchildren, Kory and Amaya Minkel of Fort Collins, CO. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
