James Gundry

July 5, 1937 — August 12, 2020

On Wednesday, August 12th 2020, James Eldon Gundry, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior. Jim was born on July 5th, 1937 in Pennsylvania and adopted by his parents, Eldon and Esther Gundry. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in education and was a teacher and then an elementary school principal for many years. On June 20th, 1959, he married Ruth Anderson and together they would raise two children, Glenn and Barbara. Jim was an extremely devoted church member, spending several days a week at prayer groups, volunteering at the soup kitchen, and serving as a mentor to all those who knew him. He enjoyed traveling and did so often with his family in tow – his wife and kids, often some of his sisters-in-law, and eventually his grandchildren and great nieces. Jim also loved to read, flipping through everything from historical non-fiction to mystery and suspense. Jim’s presence always filled the room with a love and strength, not only because of his height, but also because of his immensely peaceful spirit. Jim was preceded in death by parents Eldon and Esther, wife Ruth, son Glenn, sister-in-law Lillian, brothers-in-law Don, Glenn, and Dick. He is survived by daughter Barbara, daughter-in-law Ginger, granddaughters Erin, Elyse, Elaina, Kayla, and Ro, great grandchildren Addyson, Mason, and Jett, sisters-in-law Margaret, Irene, Muriel, and Beverly, brother-in-law Ray, countless nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his family in faith at The Covenant Church. Those desiring make make donations in Mr. Gundry's name to The Covenant Church, 3424 E, US-23, Cheboygan, MI 49721.
