He said repeatedly that if he used heroin just one more time, it would kill him. He was right; it did. It also stole a brilliant smile, a huge giving heart, a very beloved member of our family, and the most perfectly styled hair in Genesse County. The loss of this 35 yr old son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson, and friend leaves an unhealable wound. His niece will not remember him changing and feeding her every morning. He will not be fixing and firing up the jet ski on the lake. He will not be pumping iron, flashing his debonair smile at every girl in a 5 mile radius, or eating (and baking) pie like his stomach had a hole in it. However, Jimmy still has one final wish. He said he was so inspired by his recent rehab that he wanted to get well and someday help others recover. He would want this, his last message, to help someone. Be the difference. Anyone can get and carry Narcan, a FREE antidote that saves those who have overdosed (STEP Flint 810-232-0888). Even when Jimmy was in thralls of addiction, he said he saved at least 10 people by having Narcan on him. If someone you know is using heroin call 1-800-662-HELP to get connected with state sponsored rehabs and resources. There are many support options too. Naltrexone is a once a month injection that stops cravings and prevents getting high. NA meetings with sponsors work. Don't let a next high be a last breath. Jimmy's recent sobriety gave him the opportunity to make amends and reconnect. He called old friends. He recommitted to God and attended two NA meetings a day (calling it his church). He waxed on about seeing more clearly than before. He met a girl and experienced love with restraint. He had meaningful dreams. He began to own who he was and what he needed to fix. Jimmy was not a saint, but rarely turned down an opportunity to help. He had a charismatic way about him that defined ‘cool' always looking stylish. He was loyal lifetime friend to many. His hugs and laughter made everyone feel special. He was a hard worker and could fix (or cobble) anything. When Jimmy was himself, he was a talented and beautiful inside and out. If Jimmy could, he'd say he was sorry. He messed up one last time and didn't mean to hurt anyone, not even himself. He really loved his family and friends. He loved life. He really wanted it this time. So did we Bodie. RIP Sim. Online condolences may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
