James Kenneth Garcia

James Kenneth Garcia, age 79 went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on December 26, 2023 while in Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI.   Jim was born July 14, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to John Perez and Helen (Clark) Garcia who preceded him in death.

He graduated from Redford High School and worked in tool and dye, duplicating for many years at several shops in Auburn Hills and Reed City.   He even worked as a church janitor in Detroit during laid off periods.  People said it was the best the church ever looked.  Jim was a member of the Swartz Creek Church of the Nazarene where he enjoyed keeping the grounds up cutting grass and attending services while able to.

Jim is survived by his wife Linda of 59 years, sons Michael (Kim) of Howell, MI and Alan (Laura) of Hudsonville, MI, daughters Wendy Dial (David) of Soldotna, Alaska and Sandra Oldenburg (Mark) of Irons, MI.  He has 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  Surviving siblings are John Garcia (Debbie), Carolyn Garcia, Jean Bell (Wesley), Gerald Garcia (Jeanine) and Peter Garcia.  Jim was preceded in death by his sister Betty this past New Year’s Day.

Jim always enjoyed family time with Linda and the kids, the Garcia reunions, and gatherings with friends for games and food. He loved boating, gardening, and barbecuing. 

During his later years, when he was unable to get around like he would have liked due to health issues, he found a deeper and closer relationship with his heavenly father.  He had a tender heart. He read his bible every day. During Jim and Linda’s morning devotions together, he would often remind Linda of how his dad always teared up during their devotions too.  Jim was one who showed Linda and many others his love through actions rather than words.    

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Swartz Creek Church of the Nazarene, 7154 Morrish Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM Tuesday at the church. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Swartz Creek Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 East Broad Street, Linden.
