James F. Pence

PENCE, James F. - Age 94, of Swartz Creek, died February 5, 2025. A memorial service will be held 3 PM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. The family will receive friends from 1 PM - 3 PM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the funeral home. Those desiring many make memorial contributions to McLaren Hospice or the Elf Khurafeh Shriners. Mr. Pence was born August 20, 1930 in Detroit, MI, the son of John A, and Claire M. Pence of Durand. He was a graduate of Durand High School and General Motors Institute. He lived in Swartz Creek area his adult life. He married Virginia Walker on June 3, 1950. She preceded him in death. He married Patricia LaJeunesse on July 29, 1989. He was employed by Buick Motor Division Experimental Engineering, retiring as the Chassis Design Supervisor. He was Chairman of Mundy Township Zoning and Appeals Board, served as Mundy Township Volunteer Fireman for 23 years and Life member of 60 years of Masonic Lodge #161 in Durand. James enjoyed flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, wood working and he built two homes. After his retirement he become interested in computers and became webmaster for his winter Florida condo residence for 7 years. Surviving are his wife, Patricia; daughters, Terrye Matulewicz of Marquette, MI; Robin (Steve) MacConnell of Cincinnati, OH; son, Randy (Jean) Pence of Swartz Creek; step-daughter, Nadine LaJeunesse; three grandsons, three great-grandsons; three step-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Beverly (Ken) Bracco of Calumet, MI; several nieces and nephews, and loved on, Renaie Kolby and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Katherine Cooney, Marjorie Clark, brother, Jack Pence, step-son, Lee LaJeunesse; son-in-law, Melvin Matulewicz.
