James was born March 29, 1944 in Flint, the son Thomas and Mary (Simsack) Anderson. He married Violet R. Naruc in Flint on February 27, 1965.

Surviving are : his beloved wife of 54 years, Violet; children, Michael (Jennifer) Anderson and Ami I. Anderson; grandchildren, Gavin Anderson, Violet Clipfell, and Cooper Anderson; siblings, Thomas (Kathy) Anderson and Kenneth Anderson.
