STANZLER, Jack Arthur - age 81, of Ann Arbor, formerly of Flint, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Ann Arbor. Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 16, 2009 at Congregation Beth Israel, 200 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor with Rabbi Rob Dobrusin officiating. Interment will be held 1 PM Friday at Machpelah Cemetery in Flint. Dr. Stanzler was born May 7, 1928 in Schenectady, NY, the son of Max and Amalia (Eisner) Stanzler, and was raised in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated from Brown University in 1951, and the Still College of Osteopathy in Des Moines, IA in 1955. Dr. Stanzler married Phoebe Benson in 1954, and they came to Flint in 1955, where he was affiliated with Flint Osteopathic Hospital until 1985, when he retired from active practice. He then spent the last 10 years of his professional career as the Medical Consultant to the State of Michigan's Medicaid Program. In 1981, he married Laurie White, and they moved to Ann Arbor in 1984. Dr. Stanzler was the head of the Flint Interfaith Alliance for 18 years, and was an honorary member of the Society of African American Police in Flint. He was one of the producers of "Roger & Me" and was the Medical Consultant for Michael Moore's film "Sicko". Dr. Stanzler was a member of the Michigan Osteopathic Association, the National Osteopathic Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, United Jewish Appeal's Young Leadership Group, and was a founding member of the Arab-Jewish Men's Dialogue group in Ann Arbor. Surviving are: wife, Laurie White; four children (by his first wife, Dr. Phoebe Benson Stanzler), Jeffrey Stanzler and wife, Merrie Atlas, Wendey Stanzler and husband, Lee Winkleman, Melissa Stanzler, and Robert Stanzler; three grandchildren, Cassie Stanzler, Henry Winkleman and Taran Stanzler; nephew, Adam Field and many adoring friends. He was predeceased by his son, Mark Kalman Stanzler, his sister, Lucille Field, and his niece, Adele Singer. Friends may share an online tribute on the obituary page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
