McMANUS, Jack Duane - Age 79, of Hartland, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Hartland United Methodist Church, 10300 Maple Road, Hartland, with Rev. Fred Finzer officiating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Monday from 7-9 PM, Tuesday from 3-8 PM and at church Wednesday from 10 AM until time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Hartland United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Hartland Senior Center. Jack was born September 3, 1930 in Mancelona, the son of Harold and Viva (Bunker) McManus. He was a 1948 graduate of Mancelona High School and received a Masters Degree from Michigan State University. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. Jack married Beatrice L. Piers August 10, 1956 in Jenison and she preceded him in death August 13, 2006. He retired from Hartland Consolidated Schools in 1992 after 28 years, serving as Assistant High School Principal, teacher and coach. He was a member of Hartland United Methodist Church, Hartland American Legion Post #415, Hartland Community Council and served 14 years as Hartland Township Clerk. Surviving are: 3 daughters, Kathy (Tim) Howell of Gainesville, GA, Karen (John) Wizgird of Milan and Kay (Walker) Rochlitz of Shanghai, China; 3 grandchildren, Patrick Shanahan, Megan Rochlitz and Matthew Wizgird; sister, Audrey Schurman of Denver, CO; brother-in-law Eugene (Marian) Piers of Jenison; sisters-in-law Joyce McManus of Traverse City, Thelma Veneklasen of Holland, Virginia Timmer of Jenison; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
