He was born in Flint, Michigan on January 22, 1929. He graduated from Mary Crapo High School in 1947. On October 14th, 1950 he married the love of his life, Katherine Sopko. Jack was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army between 1950-1952. He worked for the Genesee County Road Commission for 43 years, until retiring in 1990. After which they spent many winters enjoying the sunshine in Springhill, FL. Jack, or Grandpa Karrer, as he was known by many, enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling, hunting, spending time at his cabin, Tiger baseball, camping, and most of all attending any family function he could. It was rare that he missed a Swartz Creek sporting event. He spent his spare time visiting at JT's Country Kitchen or spoiling his grandkids and great grandkids (especially with cookies). Jack was known for his generosity and dry sense of humor. He was loved by many. Especially his daughter, Linda and her husband Douglas Henry of Swartz Creek; Sons, David Karrer of Grand Blanc and Dennis Karrer of Swartz Creek; Granddaughters; Amanda (Wesley) Meckstroth of Linden, Kori (Ben) Smyth of Swartz Creek, and Kimberly (SSF. Bradley) Herd of Fort Lewis, Washington; Great-grandchildren: River, Davin and Melody Meckstroth, Kipton Smyth, and Joshua and Andrew Jack Herd. Sister-in-law, Ann Pucilowski of Swartz Creek, brothers-in-law Paul Sopko of Flushing and Francis Sopko and wife, Lawanda of Swartz Creek; Special friends, Carole Martin, Maxine Smyth and the elite members of the round table at JT's; The entire Henry Family, especially Matt and Tracy and their children Autumn, Calvin, Heath and Haven, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Clara and Edwin Michael Karrer; wife, Katherine Karrer, daughter, Debra Karrer; two sisters: Arlene (Fern) Shell, and Maxine (Jim) McManus. It does not do justice to say that Grandpa Karrer will be missed, for if it is true that a man's wealth is measured by those left behind who loved him, then he was truly a wealthy man. Love you Dadtake care. Online condolences may be posted on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
