IRWIN, Jack "Fast Jack" -- Age 82, of Flint, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, after a long battle with Parkinson disease . A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 17, at 2PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 81385 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will be Friday, March 16 from 4-8 pm and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305 He was born in Alma Michigan, the son of Homer and Goldie (Thayer) Irwin. They moved to Flint in 1942. Jack graduated from Flint Technical High School and U of M Flint with a BA in Business Administration. Following graduation, he served two years active duty in the Army and two years in the Reserves. Following his service he married Peggy Ann Jones on September 30, 1961. They raised two children, Stephane' Irwin and Jeffrey Irwin, in Swartz Creek. Jack was an active, creative man building four businesses from 1967 to 2008; Flint Shopping News, Flint Fun Book, Skyline Advertising (airplane banners), and Tail Dragger Dragger (tug for moving aircraft that he sold worldwide). His interests were always with flying and skiing and he made a career of those interests. With skiing partner, Henry Walder, he started the Schussmeisters' Ski Club and the Tyrolean Ski School. They led western ski trips for 30 years and taught many people the love of skiing. He was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 66 at Dalton Airport in Flushing Michigan where he maintained a close bond with fellow pilots Jeff Spinney, Gary Hopcraft and Ken Schlemmer. Jack has two grandchildren, Emilou Irwin and Matthew Irwin, the children of Jeff and Wendi. Wendi became his bedside caregiver, relieving Peggy of long nights of vigil. He loved his family , teaching them how to ski and giving airplane rides. Jack is survived by his wife Peggy, his two children and his two brothers, Larry (Penny) Irwin and Richard (Penny) Irwin, brother-in-law Douglas Jones and sister-in-law Judy (Richard) Van De Weghe and their daughter Sophie, many nieces and nephews as well as many relatives in Mt. Pleasant and Clare and close cousin Rick Cotton of Mt. Pleasant. Jack was preceded in death by father, Homer Irwin in 1958 and mother, Goldie Irwin in 1999.
