APPLING, Jack (John) Arthur - age 84, of Swartz Creek, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, May 19, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Fenton, 860 N. Leroy St., Fenton. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Fenton. Mr. Appling was born January 6, 1924 in Walled Lake, the son of Floyd and Bertha (Fandrei) Appling. He was a graduate of New Hudson High School and Michigan State University. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Jack married Ruth Porter on September 7, 1946. He had a dairy farm for many years and was involved in training Morgan Horses all his life. Jack retired from the Genesee County Drain Commission after 20 years of service. Jack was a member of First Baptist Church of Fenton and a member of the Justin Morgan Horse Association since 1956. Surviving are: wife of 61 years, Ruth; daughter, Toni (Martin) Jones of Swartz Creek; three grandchildren, Jeremy Jones, Benjamin (Jenny) Jones, Rebecca (Victor) Illian; great-grandson, Matthew; brother, Philip Appling of Lake City, FL; special family members, Jack (Sue) Appling, Julaine Appling, Ted Taylor, Larry (Kendra) Porter, Linda (John) Holman, Lydia Koci; many other extended family members.
