Irma Elmore

ELMORE, Irma Fray (Davis) - Age 98, of Swartz Creek, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Irma was born December 5, 1921, to the late Elizabeth (Elliot) and Vance B. Davis of Trenary, MI. Irma was a member of  United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek. For 30 years she was a UMC canoe camp counselor and paddled scores of middle school age youth for a week each summer down the Manistee River. She was a volunteer pasty maker and a charter member of that UMC group. She loved nature – in particular, wildflowers and birds. She loved to cross-stitch and often created her own designs. She was an inveterate jokester, and often recited poetry and sang songs from her childhood. While in the hospital just prior to her passing, she recited her own impromptu poem: “Stupid old woman, lying in bed, with a clamp on her finger, pretending she was dead,” an obvious testament to her indomitable sense of humor.

Irma is survived by five children: Judith Pifferello (Robert Brown), Fred Elmore (Nancy Anderson), Tom Elmore (Connie Ozinga), Michael Elmore (Nancy Kida), and Melinda Elmore-Hajek (Gary Hajek). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Heather McGarry, Andrew McGarry (Lisa), Jeff Elmore, Christi Elmore, Randalynn Hajek (Joe Martin), Kelsey Hajek, Julie Elmore, and Alysha Witzke (Derek Witzke), seven great grandchildren; sister Mary Liebner, many nieces and nephews, good friend John Van Deusen, and others. She was preceded in death by husband Claude Elmore, grandson Scott Elmore and George Elmore.

A memorial service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek. Pastor Dan Bowman and Dr. Gary Glanville will officiate. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions  to the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church.
