IRISH, Howard Wyant - Age 92, of Flint, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8183 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek Pastor Dave Coleman officiating. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Monday at the funeral home. Howard was born in Traverse City, MI on November 12, 1916 to Wyant and Myrtle Irish. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Munising, MI working in the U.S. Forest Service office. He attended Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids. In 1937, Mr. Irish moved to Flint. He married Ila E. Burns in Owosso in 1938 and was drafted into the army in 1943. He attended Army Administrative School at Ft. Bragg, NC, and transferred to Ft. Riley, KS and Ft. Ord, CA. He was assigned to Gen Douglas McArthur's headquarters in Manila, PI, and later in Tokyo, Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1945 he was employed by C&O Railroad in the Accounting Dept. until his retirement in 1978. His parents; wife, Ila; a daughter, Diane Marie Irish; son, Douglas H. Irish; and brother, Duane Irish predeceased him. He is survived by daughter, Dawn E. and husband Ronald McBride of Bancroft; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Richards of Harrison; nieces and nephews.
