Herman Sprague

SPRAGUE, Herman David "John" - of Flint, age 90, passed away on August 25, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, August 29, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Visitation is from 5 -8PM Thursday and 11 AM until time of service Friday. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Herman was born to David and Lavena Sprague in Clare, on September 18, 1923 and lived in the Flint area since 1926. After serving in the 1402nd Army Air Force in Europe in World War II, he married the love of his life Frances Bernice Bradley on April 1, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1969. Herman retired from the Carman-Ainsworth School System at age 62. Always on the lookout for business opportunities, he also owned the A&W Root Beer Drive-In restaurants in Owosso and Hillsdale in the 1960's and 70's. Nearing retirement he started Papa John's Concessions, and said it was a happy business running his "popcorn trucks" throughout the Flint area. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, playing cards, home handyman projects, and most of all family activities. He will be greatly missed by all. Surviving are sons, Ron and Bruce (Cathy) Sprague; daughters, Darlene (Russell) Scott and Patricia Sprague; grandsons, Troy (Bobbi) and Geoff Scott, Kevin (Cassie) and Matthew Sprague; granddaughters, Sandy Doe and Laura (Bryan) Sorys; sister Doreen Chisnell; sisters-in-law, Mary and Louise Sprague; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many special friends including neighbor Lisa Boone. Herman was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; daughter, Marcia Howard; brothers, Marion, Floyd and Clarence Sprague; and a host of other relatives, friends and pets.
